Communiqué – December 2020

Message from the CWQA President

Donald Cipollone

Donald Cipollone, CWQA President, Aquasoft – Division of Best Water Ltd.

There is no doubt that 2020 has been a year to remember and forget.

With the constant change, uncertainty and anxiety filled timeline, it is always nice to be able to reach, for stability and balance.

The CWQA has been a voice and balance in our industry for 60 years. I am proud to be a small, spoke in the wheel of success, and be able help continue with the tradition of excellence.

As restrictions and new safety guidelines are changing on a weekly basis and continue to differentiate between Provinces, the CWQA has been able to keep moving forward by reaching out with informative webinars with the help of our pool of industry experts.

The passion of our Board Members for the industry is an intangible asset. This asset has led to a fury of discussion and remarkable collaborative work, all within the limits of our bylaws. The leadership and assistance of our Past President is a dynamic that this Association benefits from.

The CWQA would not be the well-oiled association that it is without the expert skills of our Executive Director. Ms. Shelley Peters has been able to keep all organized and ahead of the curve, balancing open dialog and success.

Growth in membership, educational pieces, changing government regulations, upgrading of community water systems and cleaning up existing watersheds are items that the CWQA always has a hand within.

This organization would not exist without Industry support. It is imperative that we continue to nurture and help it grow, both for the near future and generations of water treatment experts to come.

On behalf of the CWQA, I wish you all the best in this upcoming holiday season and continuing onwards with prosperity and success.

Donald Cipollone, Aquasoft – Division of Best Water Ltd.
CWQA President

How to Remove Lead from Water
Volume 4 Issue 8 – Wahl H20 © 2020 | Jeff Whal | jeff@wahlwater.com

What is Lead?
Lead is a toxic heavy metal, for many years it was widely used in a variety of products. These included cosmetics, paint, solder, pipes, valves, fittings and plumbing. Canadian municipalities began phasing out the use of lead in service piping to properties in the 1960’s. The National Plumbing Code permitted the use of lead until 1975 and lead solder until 1986.

Membership Renewal 2021

Thank you for your continued support of the CWQA as your Canadian industry trade association. The year 2020 has been a year to remember and a year of change. This year we needed to pivot to everything online, starting with our AGM in late May, and now with our monthly education webinars.

As this year had us all shifting in how we do business, there were new costs, lost revenues, and technology learning curves. The adaptation to this new way of doing business will continue into 2021.

If you renew before December 31, 2020 you can save 2% of the renewal costs by using this promo code: ER2021

The Canadian Water Quality Association’s THREE MONTHS FREE trial membership in CFIB (Canadian Federation of Independent Business) is expiring

The Canadian Water Quality Association’s THREE MONTHS FREE trial membership in CFIB (Canadian Federation of Independent Business) is expiring, and proprietors can expect to receive a note from CFIB directly in the coming days to determine whether you’d like to continue your membership on a paid basis before cancelling any accounts.

Your Board of Directors believe that CFIB is a key ally in operating a small business today and we hope you’ve taken advantage of the many opportunities CFIB members brings. We’ve worked with CFIB to create a national program for Proprietors under nationally negotiated pricing. At this time we are not ready to announce an arrangement but hope to return to discussions with CFIB once the pandemic settles down. Until then, we encourage all members to maintain a relationship with CFIB directly.

We’d like to thank CFIB sincerely for the free membership trial period, and for their support in contacting media and government over the last few months. We look forward to working with them in the future when the time is right for our industry.

Message from the CWQA Executive Director

Shelley Peters
Canadian Water Quality Association

All of us started off 2020 with the hopes of a great prosperous year, and then the world was suddenly in a pandemic that no one had experienced in nearly 100 years.

So, what do we do next?
We rally the governments to ensure that our industry is listed or considered as an essential service, so our members can continue to service and provide quality water for all. Not all provinces were the same so differences were identified and our members rose to the challenge with masks, sanitizers and gloves in hand.

Our online education grows and more than ever, it, and our mentor, were tasked with keeping up while everyone stayed home and went to online learning.

We sourced and found a platform to take our message digitally and deliver the first ever virtual AGM in the history of the CWQA.

With our platform for virtual meetings now available, industry experts and educators are generous and help to offer and deliver education tidbits that help our industry learn and grow to continue to offer excellent products and advice to consumers.

While the second wave of this pandemic is worse than the first, our members are ready with their PPE and continue to provide water industry excellence.

None of us know what 2021 will bring, but 2020 has been a year to learn from. New websites and online purchasing are critical and having ways to pivot your business to the ‘what ifs’ is also key.

So, this holiday season, take the time to reflect on what has been good during this pandemic, maybe it is taking the time to reflect, or spending more time with your household bubble, or the new way that you have discovered to do business.

All of us at the CWQA wish each and everyone one of you, health, and happiness!
