At this time of the year, it is always great to go back and reflect on what CWQA has been doing. The year started off with a bang because we were asked to testify in the House of Commons before the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development with respect to the Freshwater Study in Canada. After this meeting, the CWQA staff was asked to participate on the Private Well Water Committee with Health Canada as they review our education program that the CWQA offers for endorsement in their documents. Then the connections continued as staff was asked to participate at the National Freshwater Data Strategy Workshop with the newly created team from the Canada Water Agency.
The Canadian Water Quality Association has teamed up with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business!
The Canadian Water Quality Association (CWQA) is excited to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB). 2024 Fall Economic Statement
December 16, 2024 is an historic day but not for the reasons Justin Trudeau had hoped. News this morning of the resignation of the Minister of Finance threw the Liberal government into chaos. Her decision came on the heels of news late last night that the hon. Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities also announced his resignation from cabinet and that he would not be running again in the next election.
The CWQA Board of Directors and staff are seeking your input through our annual member satisfaction survey. This survey is designed to gauge your overall satisfaction with the CWQA’s performance and identify areas for improvement. It should take only 5 minutes to complete.

Exploring Potability in Water
A drilled well is a mainstay for many Canadians, with 30 percent of residents, or nine million residents, within Canada obtaining their water from a ground water source. Approximately 15 percent of this water is within rural areas and some parts of the country rely on ground water exclusively. The suitability of water for a given use depends on multiple factors such as hardness, salinity, pH, nitrates, pesticides, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, iron, manganese, sulfates, hydrogen sulfide, turbidity, tannins, mineralized water, natural gas, methane and microbiological contaminants. Water should also be tested for hazardous chemicals whenever contamination is suspected.
