We are thrilled to be celebrating the Canadian Water Quality Association’s 65th anniversary this year! Since our founding in 1959, CWQA has been dedicated to advancing water quality solutions, supporting industry professionals, and advocating for cleaner, safer water for all Canadians. This milestone is a testament to the dedication of our members, partners, and supporters who have helped shape the industry over the decades. As we reflect on our history and look toward the future, we remain committed to innovation, education, and excellence in water quality. Awards & Recognition
The Rising Star Award honors water treatment professionals and business owners 40 years of age or younger who have demonstrated a commitment to the water treatment industry in Canada. Tyler Giordani grew up in the water treatment industry in Canada. His parents owned a business in Yarmouth, NS and his uncle also had a business in Nova Scotia. His parents are both still involved in the water treatment industry in Nova Scotia, however, his grandparent’s business was looking for the right person to take the business over and Tyler was the person to do it. Tyler and his partner Shawna keep the business flowing with help from excellent team members. Tyler has invested in education for his team and himself and continues to be a valuable member of the CWQA. His dedication to doing it right and making the customer satisfied is why his business is thriving. He is truly a rising star in the water industry in Canada. Congratulations Tyler.

The CWQA joined with the Atlantic Water Well Association, the New Brunswick Groundwater Association and the Nova Scotia Groundwater Association for an industry event in Truro, NS on March 20-22. Over 175 attended the event. Several learning opportunities were provided in the well drilling, pump installing and water treatment fields. Vendors were able to speak with and network with all attendees during the open tradeshow. It was received extremely well by all with talk of doing it again in the future, but to add more opportunities to learn.
Time to sign up for the CWQA H20 Innovation Summit in Collingwood, ON. This year’s event will feature the inaugural golf tournament, 5 hour tradeshow and welcome reception, and an entire day dedicated to enhancing and improving your business with industry experts, and corporate training facilities to help with communication and team building.

Government Relations
- The CWQA was ready to submit a pre-budget submission to the government, however with the election call, no budget was presented. Therefore, our ask to have a rebate provided to homeowners that want to update their water treatment to new technologies that would save water etc., will be presented to the new government once elected.
- Recently the CWQA collaborated with HRAI to provide consultation on the updated Consumer Protection Act in Ontario
- CWQA continues to sit on the Provincial Well Water Committee through Health Canada. One reason for this group is to have Health Canada review the CWQA online education and provide endorsement of it on their materials. As well, this is to connect us with the provincial bodies that are responsible for safe well water in Canada, and to show that CWQA members are excellent resources for consumers.

CWQA and HRAI Join Forces for CMPX 2026 Tradeshow
CWQA has partnered with Heating Refrigeration Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) and Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) to offer water treatment manufacturers, master distributors and wholesalers an opportunity to showcase their products at the LARGEST tradeshow of it’s kind in Canada for water treatment. This is your FINAL reminders that your dues must be paid. Those that are not paid by the 15th of April will be removed from the website.
Login to your account and you will see where you can easily renew. This year we are offering the ability to set up for annual automatic recurring payments, so you don’t have to think about it next year. However, we will still offer payment by credit card, e-transfer or cheque.

In Memoriam
Steve Biffert
The family of Steve Biffert sadly announces his passing on March 6, 2025. Steve was a 40-year veteran of the water treatment industry in Canada. Having started in the mid 1980’s with AquaFine/WaterGroup in Regina, he moved to Calgary to run the Water Group warehouse for all their divisions. In the early 90’s he purchased his own company, Softee Installations before selling to Aquon Water. Steve spent time at Summit Engineering, before he moved over to Specified Technical where he remained for a significant amount of time. His last work in the industry was with Good Water Warehouse within a role of commercial technical sales and customer service. Steve was very comfortable in residential, commercial and industrial water treatment. His experience, knowledge and willingness to share his expertise, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
