Capital Gains
The Canadian Water Quality Association continues to be concerned about Budget 2024’s increased capital gains inclusion rate and its impacts on our industry and our members. The majority of Canada’s water treatment industry are small, employee-owned businesses, and these changes will disincentivize buy-ins from a younger generation of leaders and will keep older businesses owners in the industry far longer than their original plans.
Pre-Budget Submission
Recently the CWQA submitted a Pre-Budget Submission to the federal government outlining the areas that we would like to see some attention to. One of the areas is a request for a $ 300.00 tax rebate for improving water treatment equipment in a home that would replace outdated equipment is more innovating and more efficient equipment.

Well Water Quality
A drilled well is a mainstay for many Canadians, with 30 percent of residents, or nine million residents, within Canada obtaining their water from a ground water source. Approximately 15 percent of this water is within rural areas and some parts of the country rely on ground water exclusively. The suitability of water for a given use depends on multiple factors such as hardness, salinity, pH, nitrates, pesticides, heavy metals, volatile organic compounds, iron, manganese, sulfates, hydrogen sulfide, turbidity, tannins, mineralized water, natural gas, methane and microbiological contaminants. Water should also be tested for hazardous chemicals whenever contamination is suspected.
Obituary
Brian Frazer Agnew
18-May-1967 – 19-Sep-2024
AGNEW, Brian Frazer – with the heaviest of hearts we announce Brian’s sudden passing, on Thursday Sept 19th, 2024 at the age of 57.
Although Brian wasn’t directly involved in the water treatment industry in his later career he did contribute earlier, and his tie to his twin brother Stephen Agnew of Great Lakes Water Solutions.
