The Good Water Company began in the garage of Ron Moorman’s Volkswagen dealership in 1955. Back then few people knew what soft water was, and absolutely no one knew who or what the local Culligan Man was! Their first Culligan service vans were all Volkswagens.
In 1965, Mr. Moorman made the decision to move to a larger location, and a piece of land was purchased on the outskirts of Belleville. The brand new Culligan dealership opened in 1966. Today, that is still the headquarters for The Good Water Company but they have expanded into a bright two story business located right in the heart of Belleville.
What started as a small local business with two employees in the back of a garage now operates across Eastern & Central Ontario with more than 20 team members.

The Good Water Company has been the recipient of a number of national and international Culligan dealer awards, including the Million Dollar Round Table and the President’s Circle. The company also has been recognized as the Top Dealer in Canada on three separate occasions. In 2007, The Good Water Company was awarded the prestigious Emmett J. Culligan Award as one of the top 10 Culligan dealerships in North America.
Today, the company is managed by a second generation. President Paul Moorman presides over a growing water treatment business stretching from Napanee to Colbourne and Prince Edward County to Algonquin Park.
Interview with Paul Moorman
We had the opportunity to speak with Paul and asked him about his water industry career.
Paul started working for his father in 1980, his dad said, “Paul it is time to come home and take over the family business”, 27 years later his Dad finally retired so Paul had a lot of time to ‘learn’ the business. While learning the business he also spent three years as National Sales Manager for Culligan of Canada and continues to be the driving force behind sales for The Good Water Company.
Ron Moorman, Paul’s father is one of the founding members of the CWQA and when they started the association back in 1960, it was to lobby against the proposed ban of carbon for use in water treatment. A group of dealers and manufacturers put aside their differences and competitiveness and formed an alliance to be a ‘stronger’ voice for water treatment in Canada. That is why we still have carbon today to use for de chlorination and de chloramination, as well as for other tastes and odors. Today, Paul maintains his membership with CWQA for the networking with other like-minded water companies to continue to build the strong industry presence and he believes that working together is key to keep the industry strong.
When we asked Paul what the CWQA should focus on in the future, it was all about education. The education piece is not only for water treatment knowledge but also for business acumen; like how to find and recruit employees, and expand the new employees education into electronic experience with the development of higher technology.
Like many other water treatment professionals, his business took off during COVID and he attributes that to everyone being home and improving their home environment, but he knows that good marketing through radio ads, and other print media will keep The Good Water Company strong and resilient in the years to come.
What Paul loves best about the water industry, is that it still feels like a big family. Some businesses are on second or third generations and the industry blends the old with the new through associations like the Canadian Water Quality Association.
